Visual Studio 2015 Update 2 Released

Today Microsoft released Visual Studio 2015 Update 2. This update contains a number of bug fixes, improvements, and new features.

Some highlights:

  • Many performance and responsiveness improvements have been made
  • Visual Studio Tools for Apache Cordova Update 8 is included
  • New Universal Windows Platform (UWP) tools, including a Universal Windows SDK Version Picker, ability to debug Background task processes in a Universal Windows app, and store package wizard improvements
  • Updated C++ compiler with enhanced support for C++ 11 and C++ 14 featuresRefactorings that make async methods synchronous when applicable
  • vs2015Refactorings that make async methods synchronous when applicable
  • New TextMate snippet support – Visual Studio now supports consuming tmSnippet files by plcing them into a snippet folder
  • Includes TypeScript 1.8
  • Developer Analytics Tools 5.2 (formerly known as Application Insights Tools for Visual Studio) is included
  • .NET framework 4.6.1 ClickOnce Bootstrapper package is included, which facilitates the publishing of ClickOnce deployments
  • Expanded support for auto-updating extensions, including full control of each extension via “Tools > Extensions and Updates” or at a global level via “Tools > Options”
  • NuGet extension has been updated to v3.4
  • Team Explorer improvements – When you browse the tree, Visual Studio will progressively pull the next level of folders and items in the hierarchy so that deeper levels are loaded as needed
  • New Git improvements in Visual Studio
  • Includes the latest SQL Server Data Tools
  • Includes a new version of Python Tools (2.2.3)
