Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 Released

Microsoft has released Visual Studio 2015 Update 3. This update contains a number of bug fixes, improvements, and new features.

Some highlights:

  • Update 3 is a prerequisite for using .NET Core 1.0 and ASP.NET Core 1.0
  • Reduction in the memory footprint and performance improvements for code diagnostics; This should reduce the occurrences of ovs2015ut-of-memory errors while using the IDE
  • Improved performance when reloading C# and Visual Basic projects in large solutions
  • Performance improvements to the C# “Go To Implementation” and “Find All References” options
  • Visual Studio Tools for Apache Cordova Update 10 is included
  • XAML UI debugging improvements
  • Improvements to the Developer Analytics Tools (now version 7.0.2)
  • Diagnostic tools support has been added for apps running on OneCore devices, which includes HoloLens and IOT
  • C++ Edit and Continue improvements
  • Includes TypeScript 1.8.34
  • Includes Xamarin 4.1
  • Several enhancements to the tools for Universal Windows apps
  • Developers no longer have to re-authenticate every 8 days to keep personalization/roaming settings active
  • Node.js Tools 1.2 RC, available now as a separate download, requires Update 3
  • A new option is now available (under Tools > Options > Text Editor > C# > Advanced, Using Directives) that when turned on, will suggest using directives for types in NuGet packages (works like the using directive suggestions for types in reference assemblies)
